Injectables FAQs

What is Botox?
Botox is an FDA-approved injectable cosmetic treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face. Botox has been FDA-approved for this use since 2002.
The serum is derived from the botulinum neurotoxin and temporarily relaxes the small facial muscles that pull your skin into folds when your facial expression changes. As those tiny muscles become still, the skin covering them also smooths out, reducing your wrinkles.*

What causes wrinkles?
Your skin includes collagen and elastin fibers that provide plumpness and elasticity. However, as you age, your body’s ability to generate new cells slows down, and with less collagen and elastin, your skin doesn’t bounce back to smoothness so quickly.
The process is accelerated by sun exposure, which damages your collagen and elastin cells more rapidly than your body produces new cells.
What should I expect during Botox treatments?
Botox injections begin with your Cloud La Med Spa doctor studying your face and skin to identify the best places for your injections. Then, we clean your skin and mark the injection sites. You talk with your doctor about your desired results during your initial consultation, and your doctor helps you achieve your goal of looking younger with natural-looking smooth skin.
Botox temporarily relaxes your facial muscles, so you must have occasional touch-up appointments to maintain your youthful appearance.

Your Cloud La Med Spa doctor usually provides Botox injections in about 20 minutes. Your doctor uses a small needle that shouldn’t cause pain, but if you have sensitive skin or are nervous about needles, your doctor can provide a topical numbing cream for your comfort.

How should I take care of my skin after having Botox injections?
You don’t need to take time off to recover after your Botox injections, although avoiding exercise 24 hours after your appointment is recommended. While Botox doesn’t increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun, you should always wear broad-spectrum sunscreen to limit your risk of sun damage.

What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable gels that replace lost volume in your skin, reducing the appearance of thin lips, crepey skin, and wrinkles. The first dermal fillers were FDA-approved in 1981, and the technology and chemistry have only improved.

We use dermal fillers from the Juvéderm collection, which use hyaluronic acid to plump and revitalize your appearance. The Juvéderm collection includes various injectable dermal filler products specifically formulated to address signs of aging and skin concerns, including thinning lips and wrinkles.

What skin concerns do fillers correct?
Dermal fillers reduce the appearance of signs of aging, including:
-
Facial lines and wrinkles, including marionette lines and nasolabial folds
-
Thinning lips
-
Loss of volume and contouring around your eyes, cheeks, and chin

We can also inject dermal fillers around your eyes to improve the appearance of loose, crepey skin under your eyes.
What should I expect while having filler treatment?
Dermal fillers take slightly longer than Botox® or other injectable treatments. You can expect to spend up to an hour at your appointment, depending on how many injections you have. We gradually add the gel to your skin to ensure a natural appearance.
We begin your appointment by studying your face and skin to identify the best locations for your injections. Then, after cleansing your face and applying a topical numbing cream to keep you comfortable, your doctor starts to make the injections. We frequently stop to examine your face, massage the gel into place, and craft your beautiful, youthful appearance.
Dermal fillers, including Juvéderm products, provide immediate results. Depending on the filler used, the location of your injections, and your lifestyle, the effects can last up to 18 months.*

How should I take care of my skin after having fillers?
You don’t need to take any time off after dermal filler injections; many patients have the injections during lunch hour. Dermal fillers don’t increase your sensitivity to the sun, but you should always wear sunscreen and take care to limit your sun exposure to reduce its damaging and aging effects on your skin.
